What will life be like in the 2050s? How we will use and value water?

I recently read a very interesting study about water demand in the 2050s.

What interested me was the prospective approach, based on scenarios, mixing quantitative and qualitative hypothesis.

When thinking about the demand for water in the future we have to make assumptions about how people will live and work, the technology that will be available, how people will use their leisure time and how they’ll value the environment.

The study proposes four possible scenarios built around
two axes of uncertainty but extended out to the 2050s.

The simulation is based on 4 drivers :

gouvernance : sustainability vs growth
consumption patterns: dematerialised (services) vs products led consumption (resources)

Each scenario is supported by a narrative and a description of important areas such
as technology and the prevailing economic model. What interested me was the key issues ralated to social life and economic acceptance.

WorldFuture 2007 - 2008

Last July 29-31, the World Future Society convened its annual conference in Minneapolis:

WorldFuture 2007 : The conference Summary can be found under the session summaries

For the Recordings, some multimedia CD-ROM of all the conference sessions and presentation materials are available from IntelliQuest Media.

Nb : More conference coverage will appear in the November-December 2007 issue of THE FUTURIST magazine.

Worldfuture 2008: The 2008 Conference will be held in WASHINGTON, D.C. and will be focused on "learning to see the future through new eyes". Chairing next year's conference will be Nat Irvin II, founder of FutureFocus 2020.

La cyber-culture est une culture de "gouvernail" et de "gouvernement": navigation et gouvernement de soi-même, gouvernement du collectif, gouvernement de personnes libres s'assemblant virtuellement sur la nouvelle agora du monde. Le cyber nous fournit un "gouvernail", ce qui est beaucoup. Mais il nous revient de nous donner un cap. Et le meilleur cap, c'est l'"autre" (Philippe Quéau , Cyber-culture et Info-éthique, 1998)

Cyber espaces, cyber cultures, hypermédias, Arts et Sciences .. Le Laboratoire d'idees et des Technologies
d' Ergolab-@Prospective (groupe de la plate-forme Technologique Arts, Sciences Technologies AST) regorge de concepts, images, idees sur le futur mediatique. En particulier le prototype Syngergiciel repris par Alain Chaptal.

Vocation est de servir l'"Ethnomédiologie" ou la capacité à distinguer ("mode lecture") les composantes des un(e)s et des autres : facultaires, disciplinaires, ethnoculturelles, et à relier ("mode écriture") ces éléments que nous avons su expliquer de manière à les comprendre.

Le domaine de la prospective va etre une des priorités de SYSTMLABS dans les prochaines mois... Les applications informatiques y sont finalement assez rares, et le domaine reste tres complexe. On peut citer les logiciels du LIPSOR du CNAM qui sont gratuits, mais le champ prospectiviste n'est pas assez simple pour étre formalisé informatiquement : nous en reparlerons dans une ébauche des moyens, avec un détour notamment par l'urbanisme des systemes d'information et les épistemologies de la complexité, cheres a notre SYSTM LABS.
