Why not remake ”Shogun”?

As I described before on this blog, I became a free walking tour guide of East Garden of Imperial Palace. Read this article.

Last week, I met an American woman who is a college professor. I guided her to the imperial palace and explained history of pre-modern Japan and the imperial palace.

Imperial Palace was in fact, Shogun's castle before modern times. Shogun literally means "General." He was a actual ruler of Japan. A lord that takes control of all the regional lords of Japan. The emperor has been the symbol of Japan although former constitution states he was divine and above all. He never actually took authorities. The emperor was relocated to the palace in Tokyo from Kyoto after Japan's modernisation around 1860's.

I talked with her about TV mini-series "Shogun." It was aired in US and Japan 1980. The drama was based on James Clavell's book.

She told me she watched the show and read the book, too. It was reall popular show.

I wonder why someone wants to remake it as movie. Recently Japanese famous film stories were being remade by foreign film maker like "HACHI" and "47 Ronins."

Then why not remake this TV mini-series?

Can they make this long hour TV drama into 2-3 hour movie story? I think it may be possible. The film should be remade by Britain.

It is a story of British navigator cast away to Japan coast and saved by a lord who later became first leader of unified Japan in 17th century.

The British man, Miura Anjin was modeled after a real person named William Adams.

This time, I would advise the film maker to insert clearer description of homosexuality in that period. In TV mini-series, there was a scene that implied how tolerated homosexuality was in those days Japan. Now a generation passed. It should be featured more openly. Like Anjin has a sex with beautiful boy for pillowing following the advice from his interpreter, Mariko.

It was openly done that a samurai who had a wife or wives and even children had sex with boys for pleasure. They even had sex with their retainers or sworn brothers. It was very common and never considered abnormal like modern times.

Surely Shogun enjoyed gay love affair and sex not just with his 1000 wive in the castle. It is said that one of the reasons the Shogun could maintain good governance of Japan for centuries was he tolerated sexual life style of people. Japan was originally free-sex society unlike some Christian societies where sexual regulation was a key to maintain order of a society.

I am excited to see the remake version of "Shogun" and gay scenes in it.

But since America, even on the eve of inaugurating Obama, only thinks black & white are equal and that gays don't deserve all civil rights, I need another hero.

2008 Thanksgiving. Nationwide premiere of the movie "MILK" in San Francisco neighborhood, Castro, where it all began.

The biopic was released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the double assassination of supervisor Harvey Milk and mayor George Moscone.

In San Francisco, "MILK" was as popular as "Brokeback Mountain". Go see it if you want to be proud.

It was all part of the the gay-rights movement, of course. Right in the heart of Castro, you'll find a small exhibition "Passionate Struggle" about it's history.

Amongst its exhibits, you'll find the sewing machine that made the first ever rainbow flag...

... and panthlets from early 80s, warning against the mysterious "gay cancer" that eventually wiped out a whole generation of homosexuals.

But the most important pieces, were items from the time of Harvey, like this 1978 slogan T-shirt against "Prop 6", which proposed to mandate the firing of all gay teachers from public schools.

How I wish we still have a figurehead like Harvey, canvassing up and down California to defeat Prop 8.

See the blood stain and bullet holes? Harvey was wearing this suit when he got murdered in the SF City Hall.

But all is not lost. Gay rights have continued to enter people's consciousness.

To commemorate Harvey Milk & George Moscone's assassination, SF Gay Men's Chorus once again sang at the steps of SF City Hall, where Milk famously said "I'm here to recruit you!". Milk's nephew was invited to address the crowd.

As a sign of growth in the LGBT political contingent, we now have more than one representatives running for major offices.

Kudos to Rafael Mandelman of the Harvey Milk Club, organizer of those commemoration events.

I don't know how I just bursted into tears upon hearing the news. It has never happened before, not even when my own grandma kicked the bucket last Christmas.Del Martin passed away today. The courageous civil rights pioneer who, amongst other things, fought to have homosexuality removed from the American Psychiatric Association's list of mental illness.It was only back in June, that Del and Phyllis, her lesbian partner of 55 years, finally got to tie the knot legally in San Francisco.I know. Sorry I haven't been on in a while, but I have been really busy, what with school and things. I have something to discuss further with you that I talked about a little bit in one of my earlier posts: the gay-striaght alliance.One of my friends at school got approval from our principal to start a gay-straight alliance at school. She wrote a letter to the school board explaining why we should have the club. We already have a teacher willing to be our sponsor, or to stay after school and help with it. We'll be learning about discrimination against gays and other things that have happened to them in the future. It would be a place for LGBTs (lesbian gay bi transexual) to come and seek support. We are trying to emphasize that it would not be a group about preaching our beliefs on others.Now, I'm straight but I support gay rights. I didn't used to in the future, but I do now. Some kids in our school are saying that we won't be allowed to have the club, but they're wrong. This has happened to tons of other schools, when the school board didn't approve the club. The kids took them to court, and won...every single case.Leaving you with these thoughts, I ask you to please comment me, tell me what you think, and wheter or not you support the idea. I'm trying to find support where and when I can, so the more people I get the more it might convince the school board that our club should be allowed. Thanks a BUNCH!

Debating, Part Two: Gay Rights

Hey, it's me again . Anyways, as you may know if you read my blog yesterday, I was talking about a few issues that surround us today. I didn't, however, get to talking about gay rights. This is another topic about which I feel very strongly. I one hundred percent support gay rights, because to me if anyone is in love, they should have a right to get married. I can't stand people who say 'Well, if you're gay then it's wrong.' It's not, and what gives you the right to dictate how other people should live their lives (yes, I got that from Chuck & Larry)? I happen to have a few gay and bi friends, and from their viewpoint, harrassment can be really hurtful and offensive.I'm a Christian. You know that. Everyone says Christianity is an anti-gay religion. Well, to me it isn't; the Lord I know says people should love and be loved; isn't that what gay people want? To love and be loved? At my school, we're trying to form a gay-straight alliance (me being on the straight side, of course). Everyone says the school wouldn't support it. Now this is where it gets interesting. The school has a Christian club, so why wouldn't they let someone have a gay-straight alliance? If they don't let us have that, then they can't let them have a Christian club because they let them have a club to support their beliefs, which is what the gay-straight alliance wants to do, support their own beliefs. So if you would please, share your thoughts. Tell me what you think about this and if you support it or don't support it; I like to know what you guys think! Please don't be rude though! ;)

What chance of the Archbishop of Canterbury's support as pressure mounts on the Home Office to save 19-year-old gay Iranian Mehdi Kazemi from execution? At first the Home Office refused to re-consider his deportation, scheduled once the teenager is returned from hiding in Holland later this week.

Like around 4,000 gay Iranians executed by the Ayotollahs since they came to power in 1979, Kazemi faces death by hanging if he is returned to his country. There is no logic to the Home Office line that gay Iranians are safe as long as they are 'discreet' and that having once refused to grant him asylum, his case cannot be re-heard unless new facts emerge.

Kazemi claimed asylum in 2005 after his lover was executed in Tehran. After his asylum application was refused he fled to Holland where a court has decided he must be returned to Britain. He is currently on 'suicide watch'.

An appeal has been launched through the European Court of Human rights and more than 60 leading peers, including the Bishop of Liverpool, have signed a letter to the Home Office in his support.

In a moving statement to the Home Office he writes:

"The Iranian authorities have found out that I am a homosexual and they are looking for me. I can not stop my attraction towards men. This is something that I will have to live with the rest of my life. I was born like with feeling and can not change this fact... If I return to Iran I will be arrested and executed like Parham."

Will the Archbishop of Canterbury join them? Still bruised by his worthwhile contribution to the debate about Sharia, an urgent intervention by him would seem to be more than timely.

After this post was written the Home Office announced that after campaigning by his MP, Mehdi Kazemi had been granted five year's 'leave to remain' in the UK.

1, 2, 3, 4... I still remember.

For three solid hours, I lay there counting, staring at the folds on his blanket slowly moving up and down. 8 breaths per minute, wikipedia said. Anything less than that, I had to call for an ambulance.

It was Halloween. Picasso had been bobing up and down all night, dancing away, apparently enjoying himself. All of a sudden, he just collapsed. I couldn't sit him up even if I tried. Within a minute, the club just kicked us out, without lending a helping hand. OUT, that's all they us to do. After bankrolling our pink dollars month after month, year after year, they treated us like a stinking street rat carrying a deadly plague from the Dark Age.

Once we're out on the street, I struggled to keep him on his feet, as he weave in and out of consciousness, and his limps waving involuntarily in the air. Between violent bouts of throwing up, he managed to shout "Let me go" repeatedly. Some concerned pedestrians asked if we need help. But the trouble is, I did't even know what Picasso has overdosed on. The cupid in that concoction of his recreational chemical alphabet soup. His ever-present "water" bottle hinted at GHB the date rape drug, and someone suggested giving him Speed as an antidote. But how in Hell can I get that on a busy circus corner full of passers-by whilst restraining a maniac?!

Finally, a familiar face showed up and offered to take us home, but to get a hysterical 6'2 giant into car was no easy task. In a moment of frustration, I smacked him in the face. The first time in my whole life. It didn't work, of course.

I don't remember exactly how I dragged his 175lb of unresponsive flesh up the stairs in the end. In order to keep him from choking in his own vomit, I had to maintain him in the recovery position, which eventually meant lying there holding him tight, baking in a swamp of sweat and organic smell. It has always been difficult to get his pulse, so I concentrated on his impossibly slow and shallow breaths, counting away til the sun came out.

Was it love? It must've been.

I've heard of a couple, in which one date-raped himself so often that the boyfriend has to carry a small bottle of antidote around, whenever they go out.

I can't. I'm sorry, I just can't.

A Tale of Two Kansas Cities

In a pursuit of scientific happiness (and jogging beefcakes), I have moved to the charmless heartland of America, a Kansas town that calls itself a city.

It sits uncomfortably at the border of 2 red neck States and has never quite figured out if it's really part of Kansas or part of Missouri.

Very often you'd find people rooting for one state in football, but the other state in baseball. Just like it's schizophrenic geographical location, Kansas City has a bipolar mentality.

Soon after I arrived in the summer of 2007, I encountered face-to-face those Fred Phelps branch of Baptist crazy fuckers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westboro_Baptist_Church).

Yes, just like you'd see them on TV picketing at soldier's funerals, these brainwashed zombies were protesting with signs saying "God Hate Fags" and stamping on the rainbow flag. They even used their 10yo kids!

This time round, it was Matthew Sheppard's mother giving a talk at my campus to commemorate her gay son's brutal murder by two homophobes. There were police and students all wearing black blocking the campus entrance from these insane beings. How I wish I had a camera with me then!

So you can imagine my surprise when I found this Unitarian Church in my neighbourhood (see pic) flyinig the gay rainbow flag! Even more amazingly, it has a banner supporting civil marriage for all, gay and str8.

At a place where democracy had worked against civil liberty to ban both same-sex marriage AND same-sex civil unions, I don't need any excuse to be angry.

Film Idea: The Machiavellist

I was recently asked to give my novel to Hollywood script writer for free because he just wanted only the idea of the story. The novel was already made although it is short one. So I refused to give him unless he pays for the copyright of my novel. I, kind of regret that because my story may be a big motion picture in the near future.

This time I want to present the below story idea for free of charge to Hollywood producers because it is just an idea of the story. Interestingly enough it is about the story of one big Hollywood producer, who is modeled after Aaron Spelling.

The story begins with one Jewish boy survived in holocaust immigrated to the United States.

He grew up and remebered his painful experience in the past and later analyzed why that happened. He studied how Nazis manipulated people to grow their popularity. He learned the propaganda methodology which Nazis used.

Then he became a famous Hollywood producer in 1970's. He was selling television dramas to network media. He got an idea of female detectives chasing criminals, with guns and martial arts. In those days that idea was too radical because action heroes were always men. Women fighting with bad guys by themselves were unrealistic.

One feminist actress joined his idea. But she did not agree with the detectives flirting with men to get what they want. She contends such flirting scenes insulted women and treated women as sex objects for men. But the producer said to her "You have to do that because the viewers want that and at the same time the drama can promote women's independent roles in the drama and even in the society. People are still conservative. You can't change their value and attitude so easily. Do it cleverly."

As the drama got popularity by the actress's beauty and flirting scenes, more and more actresses got independent and active roles in the drama with no need for male characters' supports. Women's social status generally got better.

After the success of the female detectives drama, the producer challenged another issue, homosexuality. In 1980's he produced a soapopera of a very rich family who ran an oil company in Colorado. The family got a problem, the oldest son was a gay. The family struggled with his homosexuality. At first the father, the head of the oil rich family rejected his son but later accepted him and his lifestyle.

This was very provocative but at the same time drama featured typical soapopera elements such as other characters' heterosexual love romances, conspiracies, lies and betrayals. The viewers enjoyed it and also learned gay issue.

The director of the drama, who was gay was so glad to make this sensational drama but unsatisfied with the producers' orders to cut gay love scenes. Gay characters and their love story appeared but not love scenes. Why? He argued with the producer. The producer said "It is too early to show such sensational scenes on television. That might give backlash to gay movement. You have to see how the world is moving. Don't go too far."

As a result, gay movement made progress by changes of public attitude. More and more gay people are coming out. General public became supportive. Some States legalized gay marriage.

In the beginning of 21st century, the producer, who retired and became very old was seeing the movie "Brokeback Mountain." He confirmed he acomplished the missions. Using the media to educate foolish people but very cleverly.

He was truely a machiavellist.

I hope some good Hollywood producer will make this story into the film.

It's been like a rollercoaster lately, so busy I've neglected this blog for some time.

Busy at work since the promotion (I guess that's what happens after you get promoted and your director wants to get you ready to be Marketing Director in one year's time... My colleague's leaving, so I have all the enquiries to reply (up to 3 or 4 a day!), I have loads of marketing projects my director gave to me (online, in magazines, networking etc.), I'm still working on many operation related projects, I'm looking for an intern and training my assistant. Anyway, sometimes it's a bit crazy, but the things is to relax, finish one thing at a time and keep breathing.

The weekend was great though, very relaxing. Lots of heroes on Saturday and loads of reading on Sunday (I went to the library!!, thinking of getting a subscription where I can borrow the books and take them home with me, only 25RMB extra), went to the gym did some further cleaning in the kitchen and ironed a huge pile of clothes.

Yesterday, S. came home, so we had some fun :-)) It's nice to have him back...

Ok, still loads of stuff to do, gotta go!

I'm still working on the script for our promotional video, but much less stressful than yesterday. My boss agreed we are rushing things a bit if we want to get it ready by the end of this month. It would mean they'd have to start filming next week. Now I can work on it slowly.

Yesterday altogether was a strange day. For the first time, I felt stressed, like I had so many things to do (film script, marketing approaches, sales emails (loads), reports, coming up with standard procedures for all locations,...) and they came all at once. I have to accept I'm no Superman and should do things effeciently - in a minimum of time - but that quality comes first - so sometimes take it more slowly. On top of that, my boss told me she thinks i'm so hardworking, know what i'm doing, know myself, have a great future and so on, so today I feel much more relaxed.

So what I did was just write everything down that needed to be done and see what was most important. Now I'm going through the list. I've allocated time for everything that needs doing today and won't do more, so I book progress on all fronts and feel I'm really moving ahead.

This weekend I'm going to the library after a long time to see what books they have on marketing, which I really need to work on and also about business and people management which I will also need more and more as manager of our department.

S. has left for Nanjing and coming back on Monday morning. That means I have the whole whole weekend to myself. Let's hope someone invites me for karaoke so I can have some fun.

Japan's crazily advanced gay movement

Can you believe this is happening in our country? Most conservative among advanced nations.

The couple is not just lesbians that you can normally see in SOHO in NY or Castro Street in San Francisco.

A woman on the left is Ms. Kanako Otsuji, former member of Osaka prefectural assembly. Now she is running in upcoming nationwide election campaign as candidate for the second largest political party, Democratic Party of Japan.

She came out as lesbian two years ago while she was a member of the assembly.

On this wedding she received the congratulatory message from the party leader, Ichiro Ozawa, known as conservative type of politician. Wow, what is happening in Japan?

Well, as I wrote on this blog, our society used to be very open-minded to gays. We were very free sex nation.

But since westerners came in late 19th century, our view of sexuality has drastically changed.

We may be moving backward.

TV Mini-Series ”Shogun” God Cursed Sodomite!

I rent DVD of TV Mini Series "Shogun" aired in U.S., 1980. I remember when I first visited the U.S., American host family where I stayed played the video of this show to welcome me. It was a very popular show. So I just wanted to see it again.

The story takes place late 16th century in Japan, when Japan was not unified. An English shipper captain, John Blackthorne was saved by the Samurai Lord, Toranaga after his ship was wrecked by the heavy storm. Blackthorne then learned how to become Samurai. Later Toranaga became the shogun, the general who governs whole of Japan. Toranaga is actually named after Tokugawa Ieyasu, who founded Tokugawa dynasty that continued for 2 and half century just by his descendants.

It was almost 10 hour show. I enjoyed only first 2 hours. As for rest of the show, I fast forwarded just to see how Japan was depicted. More than half of the show was spoken in Japanese. I could not understand how American viewers could enjoy it although each Japanese conversation was interpreted by Japanese care taker woman for Blackthorne. Kind of frustrating to see for the English viewers, I wondered. But there are many new and exciting things introduced in the show especially for westerners such as Harakiri, a man and a woman taking bath together. Not common in modern Japan but typical and normal in that era.

There was a very interesting thing even for Japanese. That proves that sometimes foreigners know better of our country's history. In the scene, Japanese care taker woman named Mariko told Blackthorne that he should choose a woman to sleep with for his health. Blackthorne declined. Then Mariko said "Do you prefer a boy?"

He was so shocked and got angry and then said "I am not God Cursed Sodomite! My intimate customs doesn't include boys." I was surprised, too. But the truth is in that era, Sodomite was considered normal in Japan.

Gay Issues in America, what I learned

When it comes to homosexuality, the entire American society is softening up in recent years evidence of which can be seen in the revisions in the legal systems of several states that have made possible the union of gays in matrimony or some other partnership arrangement. Also, movies like “ Brokeback Mountain ”, which brings homosexuality to the fore for all to see, are getting rave reviews thus demonstrating a trend that sees the lessening of bias and prejudice.

　I had lived in San Francisco, a city known to be one of the US’s most liberal cities, during a popular movement that would brand it as the Gay Capital . With most inhabitants of that city tolerating homosexuality, when I spoke harshly about gays usually they shunned me .
　I met with some gay liberation activists in that city and asked the following questions.

－Children cannot be born from gay sex, therefore, it is against the laws of nature and accepting it would imperil the humanity. What do you think of this?

Humans engage in sexual activity not for procreation but for pleasure. Sex without the intent of making children is practiced equally by heterosexuals as it is by people who have lost their ability to reproduce as well as those practicing birth control. Also, with the explosion of worldwide population in recent years threatening the very survival of humankind, all those “pro-lifers” now have it wrong.

－Isn’t homosexuality forbidden by Christianity?
Christianity is but one of many religions and there are many followers of Jesus that are gay. In the Old Testament, it is written that sex between same-gender individuals is behavior punishable by death. However, in the very same book, it also says that those who work on the Sabbath Day and those who wear clothes made with a mix of different fabric are to be condemned. There are many “Commandments” that just make no sense in this day and age. The Bible in its present form was compiled in the Middle Ages and, since we know that Jesus Christ himself never said anything homosexuality, it cannot be definitely asserted that Christianity forbids it.

－Isn't homosexuality mental disorder that ought to be cured?

In the US, psychiatrists and psychologists have agreed back in the 1970s that homosexuality is not an illness. The behavior itself is between consenting individuals and does not pose a threat on others. It is not scientific to brand perfectly sane individuals as neurotic only with respect to sexuality and nothing else.

－Why do people become homosexual?

Many say that it is a product of the environment in which one is born, however, in actual fact, no one really knows why. This can also be said of heterosexuality. It is not scientifically proven why men love women and women love men. It is in the quest for a reason for this that one encounters the belief that homosexuality is abnormal behavior.

－So, why is society regarding gays as outcasts?

A major factor is the fact that statistically gays are a minority. But aside from this, it is the general repulsion of the sexual act itself by society. Sex is regarded as impure not just between gays but also between straights. This is why virginity is revered as a virtue. However, if no sex occurs between members of the opposite gender, humanity will be extinct. This is where the notion that only heterosexual love for the intent of reproduction is accepted as holy and sex for the purpose of sheer pleasure becomes regarded as sinful. And, not only homosexual love but all sex performed with, for example, a condom or some other form contraceptive is also seen as a sin.

It's not politically correct to say it, but some Chinese really have hygiene issues. Every time i have class with this particular student - he's the worst - I have to open the window. It's only 5 out there tonight, so suffice to say it was cold in the classroom. It's not like water or gas are expensive here in Shanghai. Even if, they can afford the 12,000 to come here, they should be able to afford water and a nice shower gel. But no, they'd rather be known as Smelly Sam. My boyfriend showers every day. Twice. Like regular people. Let's hope it starts heating up soon and he'll be forced to shower daily. Once at least.

”Brokeback Mountain” Best film I've ever seen

I've been moved by the film for more than a week since I saw the DVD of it. I playback it over and over.

The story is that two young cowboys met in Brokeback Mountain in Wyoming and fell in love with each other. Even after they were apart and married to women, their love had never faded. Then they got into a big trouble.

The theme is not about homosexuality. It is about love and agony in life.

Besides love story element of the film, I could learn so much about American country life including what cowboys are doing for living. Cowboys are tough guys. They can live in a tent on the prairie. They have to be very strong to take care of livestocks.

Country music played in the film were so great.

I never experienced such wonderful feeling by other films. The feeling remained for more than a week. This can even change my way of living.

Male and Female

If girls, particularly teenagers, are allowed to idolize female singers or actresses, how come male are called FAGS and other unkind names when they tell others that they idolize a particular male singer or actor? Females can obsess over female idols and yet when males do it, they get the ‘eye’, you know what I mean?

I idolize female singers and actresses all the time, young or old alike and shamefully, I visit some forums on these actresses too – just to find out inside news about these people. Nosy Parker but I am not a lesbian. In fact, even if I WAS a lesbian, what in the world is wrong with that? Lots of people are like that and we should never be judged because of our sexual preference. I like Angelina Jolie, Michelle Yip, Maggie Cheung Man Yuk, Charmaine Seh, Charlize Theron….blah blah blah…does THAT make me a lesbian.

I think it’s wrong for people to think that it’s OK for girls/females to have idols and whenever a male have a male idol, they’re not straight. My husband used to ADORE George Michael (who happens to be gay, just a coincidence, I assure you) when he was young. He collected all CDs, posters and everything he could get his hands on and I personally don’t think that gay-ish. I think it’s called modeling after someone you admire. Admiring someone is always good and always natural.

And besides, I feel very strongly about people who have prejudicial thoughts against Gays and Lesbians. It’s not their fault that they are attracted to the same sex! They have no control over this. I can say this very frankly because I used to be very good friends with guys who are gays. In fact, I had a crush on one of them, he told me he was gay and then we became sort of bestfriends! Seriously. He confided in me his problems with the REST OF THE WORLD who considers him a queer (including his own parents) and treats him coldly and unkindly. I think it’s unfair.

I am strong believer of ‘personal choice’. in this case, whether a person likes the opposite sex or the same sex, it’s not our business to judge. It’s their inborn preference. And as mentioned, they don’t have any control over it. You cannot simply tell yourself to like the opposite sex and viola, you like the opposite sex? You don’t have a treatment for these kind of things. it’s inborn. It’s hormonal. If there’s anyone to blame, it’s God. I don’t mean to be disrespectful but hey, he’s our maker and he gives us whatever we have today. There must be a reason why he did the things he did, the way he did it, right?

And back to the point, males can have and should have male idols too. I mean, this is part and parcel of life and it’s natural. When I admire a male actor or singer, I think he’ll look good in my bed (AHEM!!! Cough, Cough!). If I admire a female singer or actress, I like her and wish that I can be like her (or whatever she projects to the rest of the world), I respect her and thinks she rocks.

Plain and simple. So, if this rule applies to the females, why not males?

Went to this "legandary" gay club called La Queen on Champs-Elysee.

Not too sure in the beginning, especially when the guide book specifically said that it's really difficult to get a taxi when the metro stops, so a lot of Parisian just keep dancing til dawn!

Now or never, I thought. If I ever have to play homeless, let it be under the Arc de Triumph.

(No, the glizzy bridges won't do, all taken over by territorial homeless gangs with state-of-d-art camping tents.)

Soon as I walked in, all the boyz looked at me as if I have fangs. Well, naturally I stared back at them and my god! The place was full of crew cut hunks in stylish Parisian fashion!!

As it was "Dance" night, standard British cheesy grooves filled the floor, making me feel very at home. Nice that they also played lots of French-Arabique techo tunes... oh gosh sooooo seductive. Funny that they had a stage too, with twinkies fighting over each other to get on it.

Saturday night in Badland (club). Surrounded by walls of MTV, dancing next to 2 muscle Mary (and their 4 big tits). All the different types of boys I've ever met in my shallow pathetic life were there.

Went to this gorgeous restaurant called Luna Park with Mr MBA last night. Red velvet curtains, cute chandeliers, reminded me of the bohemian Fillmore.

The place was soo popular that you *have* to sip cocktail for an hour whilst waiting to be seated. Mr MBA was lovely and so was the plastic little mermaid on my Mojito. Not complaining at all.

Then, out of the blue, two more mojitos arrived.

A lady across the bar bought them for us, the waiter said. How sweet, I thought. Something that has never happened to me b4. I looked over, saw this modern looking lady in her 40s, and toasted them for the drinks.

She subsequently walked up with a smile and said to me "You remind me so much of myself. I've been watching you two, your gesture, how intrigued and interested you seem in what he was saying."

"lol Yes he is quite interesting." I replied.

"You glorify him. You're like the frame and he's the picture."

Mr MBA was kind enough to debate that I was the picture instead, but I was already impressed by how surreal & modern San Francisco can be.

Two gay boys in a straight place, attracting not odd stares but favourable attention. Given the right "picture", I don't mind being the "frame" at all.
