The Bottom Line Get away from "Americanized" anime and you'll find good stuff.

Most everyone has heard of Dragonball Z and other "Americanized" versions of Japanese (and sometimes Chinese) animation. It is surprising, to me, how many people like American cartoons but say they can't stand anime. Not only is the animation better in Japanese anime, but the storylines are almost always better. They are just animated feature length movies. Check out the Cowboy Bebop movie, it should be in a theater near you! You might have seen Vampire Hunter D a couple years ago, that was a great anime movie too. I'm glad that more quality anime movies are hitting mainstream theaters.

Enough of that, lets get to the goodness. Here's my list of 10 Great Anime Movies (in no particular order):

1) Initial D - Street racing with fast cars and hot women. Takumi Fujiwara and Itsuki Takeuchi are best friends, Itsuki is in love with racing and quickly draws the very somber Takumi into it. Itsuki is blown away by Takumi's skill. The series is all about cars and racing. Part of the animation is 3D and part of it is hand drawn. The anime club at my college showed the series in its entirety...it was one of the most popular they've shown.

2) Vampire Hunter D - D is the main character, a part vampire. He's trying to make up for his own ancestry by wandering the country side killing vampires. He's the best in the business. The action is good and the storyline is engaging. If you like a darker themed movie this one is for you!

3) Ninja Scroll - A classic anime movie. One of my favorites. The main character is Jubei, a bad a$$ warrior of nearly unsurpassed skill. There's lots of blood and a little sex. The storyline is pretty complex and has some good twists. A great one for action fans.

4) Noir - Two highly skilled female assassins, what more needs to be said? Kirika's past is a mystery to her, the only thing she retains is an amazing ability to kill. The soundtrack for this movie series is very well done. For some people the series starts somewhat slow, but for me it was pure perfection.

5) Love Hina - Keitaro swore an oath of love to his childhood sweetie, they swore to go to college together. But things don't always work out the way you plan them. The sad thing is, she moved and he doesn't remember her name! But in the meantime he's in charge of an all girls dormitory! Love Hina is a very funny series.

6) Trigun - How cool would you feel knowing you're a $60,000,000,000 man?! Ok, so it's a bounty on your head but who cares?! His name is Vash...Vash the Stampede. I really like the character design in this series. They are fresh and crisp. If you want something with style and attitude that's fun to watch Trigun is a good pick.

7) El Hazard - Queen Diva and Jinnai controll bugrum, dull witted order following fighting bugs. Makoto and the others work to stop them. El Hazard is in a different dimension. The way the main characters get there is amusing. El Hazard is centered about Roshutalia, the world that Lune Venus was princess of, and the insect people that are led by Queen Diva - they are constantly battling. It's better than it sounds.

8) Burn Up - Maki, Reimi, and Yuka - not your typical trio of crime fighters. But they actually make a very good team. Their mission is to break up the White Slavery ring that is conducted in the cities disco's. Yuka ends up getting captured as she searches for clues. But it's ok, Maki and Reimi run to the rescue! The two woman raid on the slave ring compound is really exciting! Lots of guns and action!

9) Princess Mononoko - Perhaps the only really good "Americanized" anime I've seen. It has American voice actors of substantial repute. Ashi-taka (it's really one word, epinions won't let me submit it the right way) and San are the main good characters. Lady Eboshi, is the one they are fighting against. Shishi Gami is an animal god that conducts the business of giving and taking life. Some say his head grants eternal youth - humans are trying to get it. Giant wolves led by Moro no Ko help San fight against the humans. This movie has a complex storyline with deep meaning. Certainly one of the best anime movies ever.

10) Ghost In The Shell - The ultimate secret agent can travel the information highway without limit and has no phyisical presence. In the year 2029, augmented humans live in a virtual world. This movie is as similar to The Matrix as much as it isn't. It is a future dominated by super computers and cybernetic technology. Even if you don't like sci-fi (or anime) you should watch this movie. It is that good.

You should be able to find all of these on DVD, with the exception of Initial D. I have never seen this in any movie store. Suncoast has a great selection of anime, but their prices are a little high. www.suncoast.com

You can find so many hot titles out there that I couldn't possibly expose them all in one review. Therefore, keep an eye out for future reviews from me!

Good evening! This is my brand new blog. This is a new place for me to potter around (I am actually a Harry Potter fan, so that particular turn of phrase always makes me want to gigglesnort at myself... hehehehe) and share my creative outbursts. I have to, you see, I find that I just natter on at my fiance about all things craft related for much longer than is seemly. :)I suppose I should introduce myself, shouldn't I? I'm Elle, the author of Knitting Pretty. Now I'll tell you a little about myself. I am engaged to the man of my dreams, who I live with in a snug little house with our two little cats. Along with reading, I love to knit, sew, and generally try my hand at any handcraft I come across. I'm a terrible mess when it comes to my craft areas though, so don't be overly bothered if some of my posts are craft related and others are entirely unrelated. I am also an avid lover of cartoons and anime. Good cartoons and anime, mind you, not those terrible CGI ones children have to deal with these days, no, I am talking of Powerpuff Girls, Ah My Goddess, Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo.With me being so crafty, it may come as no small surprise that I am currently at University studying to become a Web Designer. I adore building a website from the ground, well code actually, up. Seeing it take form, and become a live, useful medium.Ah, and yet another defining characteristic about me... I love food! Occasionally I will post recipes, because let's face it, when can't you use another recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookies? Never, that's when!I will also be including a link to a knitting pattern with each of my posts, only free ones, though, so anyone can print them out and have a go. Today's pattern is actually meant to be knit now, and worn later. Pretty little gloves called Kingdom from over on Knitty.com I can't wait to give these a go myself, though I am an extraordinary procrastinator, so we will see. So, as I said, a bit of a mess, really... I mean look at my first post there... I don't even stay on track for that! What hope have I for an entire blog of cohesive posts!? I have no hope, I give up now, prepare for me to ramble whenever I like. Much like a pet rabbit, you are never quite sure which way it is going to go, it can be still for a while, seemingly about to nap, but out of no where it is across the room and chomping on your wellies! Special A is a story that primarily focuses on Hikari Hanazono and her attempt to beat her childhood rival, Kei Takishima.

It all started when Hikari was six years old. Her dad taught her how to fight, and she thought that she was undefeatable. But when she challenged Kei to a fight, he beat her and practically humiliated her. Since then, she swore that she would beat him no matter what.

She enrolled in the Private Hakusen Academy with him. It's an elite, rich school that separates classes by grades. The top students in each class is in the A class, and the top seven students in the A class are in the Special A [SA] class. Hikari, Kei, and their five other friends have been in SA since they were younger, although Kei is always ranked 1 and Hikari is always ranked 2. [Source]

No one recommended Special A to me. I just found it in ADC-Anime while searching for servers where I can watch Fate/Stay Night. Oh! I wasn't able to post a blog entry for Fate/Stay Night. My bad. Anyways, it was an interesting Anime. I like Fate/Stay Night and I'm glad I haven't totally forgotten this Anime, which Francis or Jano recommended a year and a half ago.

Special A is an Anime packed with comedy, challenges, and a little romance. I didn't watch this Anime because of the latter. I got intrigued by the plot. Besides, there were only twenty four episodes. I prefer to watch Anime with few episodes.

I love watching this Anime. It's so entertaining. There were sad moments but they don't have much gravity. I miss watching this Anime. I'm actually planning to read its manga. Just can't get enough.

Hanazono Hikari, the main character, is very inspiring. She is an admirable and cheerful person, a friend you'd love to have. Her determination to beat Takishima Kei is superb. But Hikari is thickheaded and oblivious when it comes to romance, which reminded me of someone I know very well. Myself.

Takishima Kei is the ever rank 1 student of Hakusenkan (or Private Hakusen Academy) and also the rival of Hanazono Hikari, the ever rank 2. He always calls Hikari as Miss Rank Two as a tease. What I like most about him is his acknowledgement of Hikari's obtuseness.

For other characters and more character info, click here. Takishima Kei and Hanazono Hikari remind me so much of vampires. Their abilities are so unhuman. Haha!

vampire knight episode 13 (spoilers ahead)

Best. Episode. Yet. I can't believe it's over. *sniff* I'm going to die until October. Literally die, shrivel up and blow away in the wind. Anyway, because I don't know how to do skips on this blog, I'm just going to go over my reactions to my favorite parts so it doesn't take up so much space.Ichiru and Shizuka. Sweetest moment ever. I'll admit that I have a soft spot for Ichiru, no matter how much of an ass he is. And I even like Shizuka, when she's with Ichiru. GASP! Me? Like Shizuka? She just seems like this sweet almost motherly person when she's with Ichiru, no matter how obnoxious she was with everyone else. So when she's dying and Ichiru is crying over her in his arms, I hated Kaname a little bit. Not much, mind you, because she still ruined Zero's life, and on some level she deserved what she got. I liked the flashback. It helps you to understand her a little better. It makes her not such a monster, I think. It's just sad that she dies and Ichiru still doesn't think she loves him. Even Zero gets it.That part where Aido and Kain are talking to Kaname, I kind of loved Aido, which is awesome because I'm not a big Aido fan. He's all upset that Kaname is lying but he keeps it in and won't say what he's thinking when Kaname asks him if something is wrong. I'm just wondering if he knows Aido knows he killed Shizuka? Aido seems to be pretty perceptive despite his usually juvenile behavior.I just have to point out the little scene between Shiki and Rima. There really aren't enough scenes where they actually talk, so I'm always thrilled about it. And I love the little "eyepatch"comment. Heh.Of course everyone has to know my favorite scene in the episode. Does anyone else think the whole Zero drinking Kaname's blood thing was just a wee bit erotic looking? Like how Kaname is all kneeling between Zero's legs, and he's talking inches away from his face, grabbing his chin, the manhandling, all that good stuff? Not that I'm complaining. Fanservice away, oh wonderful animators! But in the manga it gave the feeling that they both really REALLY hated what they were doing. Not so much in the anime. OK, as much as I hate seeing Zero get thrown repeatedly into walls, I thought that scene was important. It emphasizes that Kaname really doesn't like him enough to do it for him, but he just loves Yuki that much that even though he just wants to beat the crap out of him, he does it for Yuki. Also, the Bloody Rose element was perfect. I understand that just couldn't happen in this situation, but I still wish they could have incorporated it. Instead he just bites him and wraps his arms around him like he's clinging for dear life. And Kaname, who I swear is hugging him the whole time. Cute!Now, here's my speculation. Everyone is going on about how Zero will have to keep drinking Kaname's blood after this. As much as I would LOVE to see a repeat of that, I'm thinking it's not necessary. Shizuka herself said that her blood could save him. In the manga, Kaname explains that when Zero drank his blood that he also got Shizuka's blood. So, that would mean he isn't going to fall to level E, right? Or did she mean that it will just postpone it longer, not get rid of the threat completely?
