I can't believe it's already Thursday. Gyah. Inactivity has, once again, drawn me into loss of orientation with time. It's a good thing I've remembered what day today is because I have an appointment tomorrow. I'm coming back to V. Luna General Hospital to ask the nurses in Orthopaedic Ward and Oncology Ward to sign my internship completion form. It's about Intravenous Therapy.

By the way, I just found out that Eclipse will be in theatres on summer 2010. Impressive.

IV Therapy Training and Completion

The IV Therapy didactic training and return demo were finally over. The same goes with my scheduled completion in VLGH. But my partner and me decided to still try it out, extend one more day that is. We're still one Blood Transfusion down to have our cases complete.

Those 2-day stay in VLGH as IV Therapy interns were fun, especially the second day. I do want to stay longer so I can perform, and master, what an IV Therapist does. But, I don't have any intention to use the patients as dummies or practice objects. I don't do that.

Amongst the functions of an IV Therapist, I'd say the one I am most confident to do is Blood Transfusion. I've only done it once, but I've done it as if I were a staff nurse of VLGH. Of course, there was supervision from the NCOD.

I may be able to get home early on my first day of completion, but the second day, which was just yesterday, had made me stay longer than expected. I spent 14 hours in the hospital. Of course, I was not alone. My "one-on-one" partner was with me too. Although we got home late, it was worth it because both of us were able to have one BT case each.

14 hours straight. Such stay tortured my feet. They were hurting so bad that when I raised them as I got home, it was like I could feel the venous return. Thank God my feet, and legs, no longer hurt this morning.

Game 1 winning pitcher Cliff Lee wears #34 in his Phillies uniform. AJ Burnett is also wearing #34 in his Yankees uniform.

And who will forget Nolan Ryan and Rollie Fingers?

AJ Burnett pitched for the Yankees in World Series Game 2 with a blast. The Yankees beat the Phillies on 3-1, tying the series on Thursday night in Yankee Stadium.

The Pie-Man of the Bronx was able to keep his goal for the game. "I won't change anything as far as my plan or my attack, just maybe not be so careless from the get go -- just throwing balls over the middle to get strike one," Burnett said.

The right-handed pitcher allowed 4 hits, 2 walks and just one run in seven innings. The run was from Raul Ibañez, who hit a double, driven by Matt Stairs' single, a ground ball to left field that was deflected by Alex Rodriguez in the second inning.

If the Phillies had a lot of runs in Game 1 on Wednesday, Thursday night gave them a lot of strikes and strikeouts. Burnett struck out Raul Ibañez twice and Ryan Howard thrice. He struck out four other Phillies.

Burnett's favoured catcher was outstanding, not just in helping him with his pitches. Jose Molina, also a Puerto Rican, kept a runner from staying in the fourth inning. Jayson Werth hit a single on a full count but while Ibañez was batting, he was picked off by Molina at first base on a throw to Mark Teixeira. AJ Burnett only faced three batters in the fourth inning.

The Bronx Bombers hit two solo home runs. The Yankees' first homer in the World Series came off the previously shy bat of Mark Teixeira over the fence in the right centre field in the fourth inning. It was his first career World Series home run.

The other solo homer was provided my Hideki Matsui on a fly ball in the right field in the sixth inning. It was Godzilla's second career World Series home run.

When Jorge Posada was announced to pinch hit for Jose Molina in the seventh inning, Phillies manager Charlie Manuel left the dugout to get the ball from Pedro Martinez, the Phillies starter, and summoned Park Chan-Ho to face Posada who went 0-for-7 against him.

Pedro Martinez pitched for 6 innings and left the mound with 4.50 ERA. He struckout eight Yankees but allowed 6 hits and 3 runs.

A.J. Burnett may opt for Jose Molina to catch for him, but he was the number one cheerleader of Jorge Posada when the veteran catcher hit a single on a line drive to centre field driving in Brett Gardner, who was pinch running for Jerry Hairston, Jr., for another run. The run was charged to Pedro Martinez.

The Philadelphia Phillies were able to keep the remaining Yanks off the plate when Johnny Damon lined into a double play. Posada was out off first. They also caused a gathering of the umpires to discuss the play and call, which was questioned by Joe Girardi.

The Phillies were trying to rally more runs, but the goal seemed impossible as they had to face Mariano Rivera in the eight inning. Posada stayed in the game to replace Jose Molina.

The eight inning was quite a battle against The Sandman who drew the third walk for the Phillies with just one out. Shane Victorino, batting next, was able to hit a single on a ground ball to right field. The Old Guard closer was able to stay out of trouble when Chase Utley grounded into double play, Robinson Cano to shortstop Derek Jeter to Mark Teixeira. Shane Victorino was out at second base.

Ryan Howard was batting first in the ninth inning, but he never had the chance to have a base hit as he was struck out on 0-3 count by Mariano Rivera. The first baseman of the Phillies was totally shut out by Burnett and Rivera in his four at-bats.

After 38 pitches, Mariano Rivera struck out the eighth batter he faced on 2-2 count for the final out of the game.

The Yankees are off to follow the Phillies in Citizens Bank Park for Game 3 on Saturday night. Andy Pettitte will start for the Yankees who will face Cole Hamels.

Old Guard pitchers advance the Yankees back to World Series.

After being suspended on Saturday night because of hefty rain, Game 6 was finally pushed through on Sunday night in the Bronx, New York.

The Yankees may have lost Game 3 of the series with Pettitte as their starter, but Dandy Andy presented himself in the mound in Game 6 with confidence and results that speak of his possible legend.

The 36-year old pitcher only allowed one walk, of which Howie Kendrick was the recipient. It was after Vladimir Guerrero hit an RBI, which he grounded off first in the second inning. Guerrero's move was considered to be a wrong move; obviously.

The Angels have committed a lot of mistakes during the series, some of which were not even part of their accumulated 8 error record in the ALCS. Some of those errors even helped the Yankees reach homeplate.

One easy and unwonted out happened during the sixth inning. Chone Figgins, after bunting Pettitte's 89 MPH fastball, grounded out to catcher Jorge Posada. He was out for tagging himself as he ran to first base. His left foot touched the ball.

In the same sixth inning, the Angels might've had a run when Vladimir Guerrero's double RBI advanced Torii Hunter to third base. The centre fielder's speed has been a concern to the Bombers. With two out, Mr. Iron Gaze saved the inning when Kendrick Morales hit the ball back to him for the third out.

With long time teammate Jorge Posada catching behind the plate, the left-handed pitcher struck out six Angels in 6.1 innings before Manager Joe Torre climbed to the hill. The man in the mound knew what was coming.

Pettitte may have wanted to stay longer, a lot of the fans wanted too, but he yielded to his former teammate's call and left his throne with 99 pitches and a 2.84 ERA.

The post-season veteran pitcher allowed seven hits and only had one run. The Yankee fans gave Pettitte a standing ovation while the Old Guard starting pitcher tipped his cap in recognition of the fans as he retired to the dugout.

Joba relieved for him, pitching against two Halos. He grounded out both to end the top of the seventh inning, but that was all for him. Joe Girardi already had plans for the eight and ninth inning.

The Sandman left the Yankee bullpen radiating assurance to the Yankees and at the same time threat to the Angels. "I knew I was going to be there for at least two," said Rivera who was called in the top of the eight.

Mariano Rivera is one of those pitchers you don't want to face when you're in the batter's box.

"Man, I don't even want to talk about Mariano Rivera right now," Torii Hunter said. "You don't want to face him. I don't plan on getting to him. If we do, the game is probably in the bag."

Chone Figgins was fortunate to hit an RBI on one ball - one strike count against Mariano Rivera. He was not the only blessed Angel of the night. With two outs, Figgins scored on Vladimir Guerrero's RBI giving the Angels their second and last run. It was the first post-season run given up by Mariano Rivera at home since Game 2 of the 2000 World Series against the Mets.

In the top of the ninth inning with two out, and just one more for the final one, Gary Matthews Jr. was pinch hitting for catcher Mike Napoli. It was an offensive move but obviously didn't work. Matthews, Jr. struckout swinging for the final out of the series. The pitch was not even a cutter.

Mariano Rivera secured the World Series ticket his Old Guard buddy Andy Pettitte clutched for the Yankees.

The Bombers earned three runs in the fourth inning from Robinson Cano and Nick Swisher on Johnny Damon's RBI and from Derek Jeter who had to step on homeplate to give way for A-Rod who was walked with bases loaded.

They had another runs in the eight inning from Robinson Cano on Melky Cabrera's sacrifice bunt, which he earned as double on throwing error by Scott Kazmir, and from Brett Gardner on Mark Teixeira's sacrifice fly to centre field.

The New York Yankees defeated the Los Angeles Angels on 5-2 in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series. The Bronx Bombers will represent the American League in the World Series to face the defending champions Philadelphia Phillies of the National League on Wednesday night in Yankee Stadium.

Phillies and Yankees on World Series

The wait is finally over.

After 5 days of waiting, the Philadelphia Phillies now know which team will they face. The New York Yankees just defeated the LA Angels in the American League Series of Game 6, 5-3 on board. It was a game that lasted for 3 hours and 40 minutes with 50,173 people in full anticipation.

The Phillies and Yankees have faced each other during the regular season, and the Phillies have won the series, 2-1, against the Yankees. Game 2 of that series was a walk-off win as Melky Cabrera hit a single, scoring Robinson Cano. Alex Rodriguez provided the tying run, a two-run homer to the right field.

Game 1 of the World Series will be started in the Yankee Stadium and starting pitchers will be CC Sabathia and Cliff Lee. Both pitchers are considered aces in their ball clubs. But who will prevail?

Cliff Lee has a 14-13 record, 245 hits, 3 walks, 10 strikeouts, and a 3.22 ERA. CC Sabathia, on the other hand, has an amazing 19-8 record. He has allowed 197 hits and 67 walks while striking out 197. If Mo is capable of calming the Yankees organization, and fans alike, during the late innings, CC has a calming effect on me when he's starting for the Bombers.

Both NL and AL teams know how big the World Series will be. The Philadelphia Phillies will do everything to defend their title while the New York Yankees will be looking forward for a 27th World Series title.

There are a lot of World Series rookies from the Yankees, but the Old Guard remains intact. The last Old Guard appearance in the World Series, excluding Andy Pettitte who was in the Astros, was on 2004. This would be a nice reunion, especially that Pettitte is back to the Yankees. With new members in their club, the World Series will be more exciting.

The Phillies and Yankees are strong teams in their respective leagues, but only one team will claim the 2009 World Series title. I am a fan of both teams, but I am rooting for my top favourite team, the New York Yankees.

The National and American League Series are over. But, "It ain't over till it's over." It must be a wonderful night for Yogi Berra who watched the game. I'd love to hear what he's got to say about Game 6.

Leaving that place made me really sad. It still does. But since the last time I've seen the white wrangler, I had the feeling that I had to. Besides that, I feel a little embarrassed staying for quite some time. There was nothing much to do, I guess, but perhaps it's because it's one busy week catching up to the losses of the previous one.

Also, whenever I try to inquire I receive no answer. That does annoy me because when I ask something official, I expect an answer. Is it too much to ask for such respect? I may be a little disappointed but that doesn't change the fact that I am thankful.

I may no longer be coming back, unless summoned, but I have this nostalgic feeling. I want to be there again. There may be new reason or reasons why but it does no harm. It shall not. I guess I'll just have to remember what we call delicadesa.

May the day come when I shall face the white wrangler again. And when that day comes, may both be all-smiles to one another.

I have a lot of things on my mind right now. I also have a lot to accomplish. As for today, I want to do something worthwhile. I still want to help, not just the victims but also those who help. Classes are back. It's finals and defense week, for those I've helped with.

Later this day, I will be in HotL, Pasong Tamo Ext. for our A Life Worth Living course. I've been absent twice. Woot!

There is one thing I ask today: That I will have wisdom. I really need wisdom and understanding. I feel so insufficient. I've seen enough and been through quite a lot to know that I am not yet accomplishing what I should accomplish.

By the way, how I wish I can have McCafe's Cocoa Steamer today. I miss it!

I can eat pork. I just don't want to.

Most of my friends know that I do not eat pork. I am not a Muslim nor a Jew, but I somehow observe their diet when it comes to pork. Somehow because I can still eat pork.

It all started when I was 7 or 8 years old. I've always been fond of reading. We had enough books at home to keep me interested. One day, when I was quite bored or perhaps just curious of the books we had at home, I checked our cabinet and looked for something informative and interesting.

I found Modern Medical Guide. I decided to read anything from the book. As I was turning the pages, I found something about worms then I saw a picture of a pig and how it is fed. A pig eats anything and almost everything it can put into its mouth, including what goes out of the body. With such piggy character it is not impossible for the animal to have worms. These worms are not easy to be eliminated. They even settle beyond the digestive system.

I remember a picture of pork that has not been cooked or prepared properly and the pork was about to be ingested (or eaten) by a man. It was when I decided that I shall eat no more pork.

Whenever I refuse to eat pork, people usually ask me if I am a Muslim. What a pity. Muslims are not the only people who do not eat pork.

Of course I have eaten pork in the past two years. I broke my "oath" when a friend of mine told me that I only live once. I was craving for a Siomai but the only Siomai available was Pork Siomai.

When I bought the Pork Siomai, I was bothered. First, because I broke my "oath" and second, the taste was quite bothersome. It's been years.

During summer last year, I also ate pork. It was barbecue. To my surprise, I liked it. Perhaps eating barbecue with friends was a factor why I liked the pork barbecue. But I think those barbecues were the last pork I consumed.

Oh, not actually. I had another pork a couple of weeks ago. I wouldn't have eaten it if it wasn't because of someone who prayed for the food. I only refuse to eat pork if the person knows that I don't eat pork or, at least, he can understand that I don't eat pork.

If I happen to come to a house where I will be served with nothing but pork, I shall eat it. I give justice to the food served for me. It'd be impolite.

The Hammer of God in Baseball

I've finally watched Mariano Rivera pitching in the ninth inning! His 503rd save, which was against the Blue Jays, was so breathtaking. And I am saying that literally.

Everyone was anticipating for the 3 up, 3 down. Maybe they were even expecting a strikeout sweep.

The first batter on plate, Alex Rios, was struck out with 1-3. Just one ball for Rivera, a 91mph cutter. The rest were 92 mph.

Next in line was DH David Dellucci who hit a fly ball to centre fielder Brett Gardner. It was a 90 mph cutter. Dellucci bats left, but as expected, he had to switch into a right hitter to avoid breaking his bat, or being hurt, by Mariano Rivera's cutter.

All switch hitters bat right against right-handed Mariano. When it's Mariano Rivera, you must keep right.

The last to bat was the Blue Jays' catcher, Raul Chavez. I wonder how should I describe this moment. First pitch was a strike, and so was the second. Just one more and it's the final out. Would've also been an awesome record of three consecutive strikes in a single at bat.

But the next pitch by Mariano was a ball followed by another ball. 2-and-2 for both players.

It was the final out and the first win of the New York Yankees, 4-2, against the Toronto Blue Jays for the series.

On behalf of the entire Repères team, I wish you all the best for 2009 and much success personally and professionally.The beginning of the new year is always a time for reflection, even more so this year which has started in an atmosphere highly conducive to anxiety.I would therefore like to take this opportunity to step back from this very short-term and hackneyed vision of the crisis to share with you some of the medium-term strategic issues for Repères.From my standpoint as the CEO, I believe that in such periods of uncertainty there is all the more need for us to focus on respecting the core identity of the company (the values and mission) AND at the same time to renew and optimise everything that is not a part of this core identity (organisation, process, methods…). This belief is largely exposed in the writings of the American academic Jim Collins: "The most enduring and successful corporations distinguish their timeless core values and enduring core purpose (which should never change) from their operating practices and business strategies (which should be changing constantly in response to a changing world)" Jim Collins - Built to lastIn the case of Repères our core values are the following:Our mission is “to help companies design, develop, optimise and market their offers of products and services”.In accomplishing this mission we respect four core values: . Rigour, with high-quality services,. Honesty and ethics. A spirit of partnership with our clients and internally with our different teams,. A permanent quest for progress, in individual terms and regarding processes.These core values are not destined to change. However, with the aim of making all the rest evolve, we constantly seek to optimise our methods and processes to ensure we are always in synch with the needs and constraints of our clients. 9 Goals for '09

"New Year's Day falls on a Saturday." That's according to my grandfather when we visited their home for the clan's annual reunion. He's old and most of the time, he doesn't know what he is talking about. But just now, I am inclined to believe in his "New Year's Day falls on a Saturday" claim. Why? Because it gives me an excuse for posting my New Year's Resolution in this site a bit late.

Now, forward to the list. This year, I'm aiming to hit 9 goals. I think I aimed for too many last year and as a result, I failed a lot in making them become realities. Well, nine goals/resolutions are still quite numerous; but what can I do if 9 is the only fitting number that I can think of as part of the title? ;)

Well, so much for the introduction. Listed below are the nine things I want to achieve for the year 2009.

50K at my bank account by the end of 2009. Probably not too much compared to many of my friends’. Some of them can easily save double the amount at half the time. But for a person like me who doesn't even have a bank account, save the ATM account provided by our company for our monthly salary, it would already be an achievement. My first stop: find a bank that I can create a new account with.
Pass the PhilNITS SW Exam. I failed last year, so I would be trying again this year. I crammed for last year's exam. Having no real time for studying due to busy work schedules, I crammed studying the day before the exam. The results were not too bad, however. I passed two parts of the exam, but badly failed on one part. Had the circumstances been different, however, I think could have passed the examination. So for this year, I would start by working towards changing the circumstances I was in last year.
Pass the JLPT Level 2 Exam. Of the three exams I planned to pass last year, I was only able to take two and failed in both. One of those exams is the JLPT Level 2 exam. And as with the PhilNITS exam, I would also be trying to reverse my fortunes this year. I miserably failed in the exam last year due to laziness--I failed to follow the study plan that I created. Well, I can also blame my study plan; it was a bit too ambitious. So for this year, I would be creating a more realistic study plan and try harder in following it.
Zero tardiness for 2009. 2008 would be the worst year for me when it comes to punctuality. I also aimed for zero tardiness last year and I had been doing fine until the last day of the first quarter. In the three quarters that followed, my office tardiness slowly swelled to its worst. I blame it on the snooze functionality of my cellphone. Hehe. And to solve this problem, I would be aiming for a new cellphone this year. Hmmm. Haha. Joke! But it's not a bad idea either. I think it's worth a consideration. :p
4 blog entries per month. I nearly hit 1 entry per month last year, only failing to post one for December. But that was hardly my goal last year. I think I was aiming for two posts per week—one post for The WISIWYG Blog and another for Dinozilla. But then again, I was too busy procrastinating that I forgot I had a goal. And blame it also to the inspiration that never came when my hands were itching to write something. So for this year, I'll just forget about timing. Whenever the inspiration comes, I would grab a pen and write.
A comfortable body by the end of 2009. This is far from being a S.M.A.R.T. goal, but who cares! :D I just don't have a good definition of what a comfortable body is. And as of posting time, I still have no idea as to what actions I would take to make this a reality, or if this is even achievable. See, I was aiming to lose 10 pounds per month last year, only ending up registering 10 more pounds compared to my APE weight last 2007. So allow me to be vague for now, and let me plan and try out different things continuously until mid-year.
Watch more movies. I can't remember what the last movie I have watched in a cinema was. Spiderman 3? Pirates of the Caribbean 3? It's either of the two, and I can't tell if it was shown last year or way back in 2007. I haven't been watching a movie. I have missed even the great ones that I planned to watch. Blame it again on my busy work schedule. So this year, I must try hard to make my weekends MY WEEKENDS! I must finish all my work during the weekdays so that the Saturdays and the Sundays would be all mine to enjoy.
Read 1 book per month. When I was new in the company, right after my ACTION training, I used to spend weekends reading fiction novels. We had no TV then and I had no computer, so my weekend activities would just be limited to strolling at the mall and reading a book. And since going to the mall tended to be quite expensive, I often opted for the cheaper option: reading. Though I have no TV set for almost a year now, that old habit of mine never came back. Maybe because I have other forms of entertainment right now, thanks to my laptop computer. But I still want to read books. And my action plan for that: Just READ!
Become closer to God. I can't remember how many Sunday masses I was able to attend last year. And I also can’t remember how many times I have opened the Bible last year. For both, however, I am sure that if I can count every instance, it would be less than the number of fingers I have on my hands. So for this year, I would try to be closer to God by re-familiarizing myself with His Words. I used to feel close to Him when I was in high school, but my relationship with Him started to deteriorate during my college years. So for this New Year, I would try to regain that wonderful relationship I had with God. My life was really happy back then when I was still close to Him.

So that's it for the 9 things I plan to achieve for the year 2009. Many of the goals were copied from the 2008 version of this post. Hopefully, I can finally realize them this year. And I hope the new one's would be realized just as well. I hope they would not start eating dust by the end of the year's first quarter, just as what happened last year. Either way, I promise that I would try very hard to make all of the 9 a reality.

Goodbye, 2008. Hello, 2009!

2008 will soon end and 2009 will then take place. Time flies. Even so, a lot had happened this year. I don't want to lay out details here. I just want to bid 2008 goodbye. Thank you for an incredible year. I can definitely say I've become stronger. Better? Amen! Haha.

There's one particular thing I want to address. I might be bringing it, unwantedly, in the coming year but I can handle it better now. It was unlike how I had it before. I've been denying about it but when I've come to accept it things got better. But not so lately. It's quite bothering me a lot, awake or not. But I'll be sticking to what I said before. I'll let it go away through natural death. I don't know how that will happen. I don't even know when it will totally go away. But I'll be fine. I'm no longer as confused as I used to be. I now know what I want, consciously, though my dreams slash subconscious says otherwise.

By the way, I think I gained 6 pounds. Haha! Four more pounds and I can donate blood. Yipee! And I can have a tattoo? Weeh! <3

I have many wishes or prayers for the year 2009. Of course, good health and blessings for my love ones. As for me, top the NLE. Haha! I want to have the biggest faith I can have for this year. I may not be able to do it, but I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. ^_^ And oh, I want something else. I'd love to meet mai moon-scarred leech. Haha! Wanted: lightning strike - power and speed and death rolled into one. ^_~

While stylish, it's also sickening. The protagonist, the hero, becomes a murderer whose objective is starting a war between Japan and the United States. It plays like Arab nationalism -- angry, backward-looking, unconcerned about the lives of others, petty.Josh from One Free Korea has the deteriorating relationship between South Korea and the United States in his Death of an Alliance series. 2009 brings the same message, but as a jump through the gut.It is a rare movie that makes you want to root for the Empire of Japan. The sickening nationalism of 2009 makes Lost Memories just such a movie.
